THE VOYAGE SERIES

Prologue: Morning, 3 January 1761. Somewhere in the Coral Sea...

About The Author

PETER BOEY - With a Dutch mother and a Flemish father, Peter migrated from the Netherlands as a young boy. The many experiences encountered growing up in his new country are reflected in the story.

A teacher for over twenty years, Peter also worked as a graphic artist. As a qualified scuba diver he has dived with giant manta rays on Swain's reef on The Great Barrier Reef, wreck dived, and also swam with leopard sharks, turtles and giant bat fish off Lady Elliot Island.

Living on the southern Gold Coast for the last seven years, the local area is the inspiration for the setting of the book. On one of his dives he came across the sunken bathtub which became the catalyst for the story.

His interest in maritime history and love for Dutch painting comes out in the story.  Peter has done the illustrations for the book cover and the centre piece in his book.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Before the voyage of Captain Cook, an armed merchant ship of the Dutch East Indies Company disappears off the east coast of Australia. An unofficial voyage never recorded in the history books, the Dutch sea captain is desperate to send a message home that may be the last hope for Erik, a boy living in Australia 250 years later.

Erik is drawn to the sea, yet lives with his family in the Australian outback. His crippled father hates the sea. So what explains the diving suit Erik discovers in the attic, and the artefacts hidden inside, that match the heirloom his sister Stephanie wears?
With a chance move to the coast they learn of their parents' deception. Their father's murky past leads them into the shipwreck smugglers' lair that has baffled authorities. Unable to tell friend from foe; beguiled by illusion and confronted by betrayal, kidnapping and murder, 13 year old Erik and Stephanie fall deeper into a seething labyrinth of no return above and below the waterline.
How can they solve the series of riddles and puzzles confronting them? Will they unlock the clues painted into a Vincent van Gogh masterpiece? What chance have they against a heartless killer, the leader of the smugglers, and the temptations of a clever conjurer with shifting identities—a maestro of the counterfeit?
Pursued from all sides, the two would-be sleuths unearth the disturbing truth about who they really are. Can they outwit all their enemies and decipher the mystery of the merchants ship's resting place? Will Erik heed the warning from the past?
  1. Comment: “ the reader is transported into an utterly engaging world...in this fast paced rollicking adventure...” - Norman Phillips, Palm Beach.
  2. Comment: “ This up and coming Australian writer has qualifications beyond the keyboard.” - Steve Morgan, Editor, “The Island Breeze.”
  3. Comment: "  Boey's first book is well written and goes at a cracking pace. I was taken by Boey's dynamic prose and this story. Wishing Peter all the best on his novelistic "nautalistic" journeys to other nearby bathtubs. Secretary of Sunshine Coast Writers Club
